Holiday season is upon us (yes I know it’s months away) and the avalanche of new makeup sets flooding our inboxes can be overwhelming. Personally, I’ve been over the whole limited edition holiday sets for several years, but every now and again something piques my interest. The Too Faced Holiday 2020 Melted Matte Lip releases made the list this year.
Too Faced has been releasing holiday edition Melted Matte Liquid Lipsticks for a while. The last few years we saw the Gingerbread Man and Gingerbread Girl shades and this year has yet another rendition called Pumpkin Spice, which is actually a rerelease. Pumpkin Spice was previously created as part of a holiday 2018 mini set.
Too Faced also released a set of four mini Melted Mattes called the Snuggles & Melted Kisses Liquid Lipstick Set.
So lets get into swatches, scents, and comparisons.
Too Faced Melted Matte Pumpkin Spice Liquid Lipstick
Over the last two holiday seasons Too Faced launched a full sized Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick alongside a similarly themed metal palette. The first duo was the Gingerbread Spice Palette and Gingerbread Melted Matte in 2018, followed by Gingerbread Extra Spicy and Gingerbread Girl Melted Matte last year.
This years couple is the Pumpkin Spice palette (which I’ve already reviewed here) and the Pumpkin Spice Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick.
The Too Faced Pumpkin Spice Melted Matte is a full sized liquid lipstick that retails for $22 and there’s 0.23 oz of product.
It’s packaged in the standard acrylic tube with a doe foot applicator.
I like everything about the packaging from the embossed gold letters to the pumpkin pie decorated wand. I also appreciate that the doe foot is relatively small which is helpful in getting precise application.
The formula is the standard Melted Matte formula. Not awfully drying but not hydrating either. There’s just the slightest bit of cling when I press my lips together but it doesn’t transfer from lip to lip or onto a finger. To compare it to, say the ABH liquid lipsticks, it’s more comfortable and it doesn’t emphasize fine lines as much. That being said, it is matte so it’s not the most flattering finish.
Since it is Too Faced and it is the holidays, you know already to expect some scent in the product. This one has a warm, spicy cinnamon smell that’s laced with something sweet, maybe a hint of vanilla? Whatever it is, it smells good and is pretty much a match for the scent of the Pumpkin Spice Palette.
Too Faced is a cruelty-free brand however the Melted Mattes contains beeswax and are not considered vegan.
The past few holiday Melted Mattes both stayed in the warm, toasty neutral territory and this one fits right in. Pumpkin Spice is medium terracotta shade that’s somewhat reminiscent of Gingerbread Man but a lot more muted. I pick up on a hint of pink in the shade which I thinks makes the shade more wearable.
The shade dries down a bit darker than it looks at first. It’s still rooted in that orangey base so if you don’t like warm lip colors, this won’t be for you.
Pumpkin Spice is definitely the lightest of the three shades and being the nude lip girl that I am, it’s my favorite. The Gingerbread shades can be harder to pull off, especially on cooler skin tones. So if you’ve liked the idea of the holiday liquid lipsticks but didn’t think the previous shades could work for you maybe give this a try.
Where to Buy Too Faced Melted Matte Pumpkin Spice Liquid Lipstick – $22
Regardless of where you choose to purchase from, make sure to check if Rakuten (ebates) is offering cashback. Sephora offers cashback for anywhere from 2% to 8% and Macy’s up to 10%, so it’s definitely worth looking into.
If you haven’t signed up for Rakuten yet, you can do so here, it only takes a minute and you’ll earn cashback every time you shop through their link. They also have an extension which I recommend installing, that activates cashback on all eligible websites with one click. It also scans for coupons.
Too Faced Snuggles & Melted Kisses Liquid Lipstick Set
The Too Faced Snuggles & Melted Kisses kit is a set of four mini Melted Matte Liquid lipsticks, all in limited edition holiday themed shades. The set retails for $25 and each lipstick contains 0.1 oz of product (just about half of the full size).
The four shades included are Hot Toddy, Candy Cane, Sugar Cookie, and Caramel Apple. Of the four Sugar Cookie is a returning shade. It was part of 2018 mini Melted Matte set.
Candy Cane shares the same name as full sized Melted Matte from holiday 2016, however the outer packaging has a different candy cane print. From what I can tell looking at online swatches, it’s not the same shade. Original Candy Cane was a fuchsia and this one is much more of a bright red.
The shade Hot Toddy is a muted berry. It’s a nice neutral shade, not too dark and not too bright. I think this is probably the most wearable shade in the set.
The shade Candy Cane is a bright cherry red. It swatched a bit sheerer than the rest of the shades but applied fine on the lips. This is the brightest of all the shades.
The shade Sugar Cookie is a cool toned beigey nude shade. This color really surprised me. In a swatch it looks like it’ll give you dead fish lips but it’s actually a really pretty nude, at least on my skin tone (fair skin may be a different story).
The shade Caramel Apple is a deep reddish terracotta. It’s an interesting color because there’s a lot of orangey warmth to it and it definitely givews off 90’s vibes. I think it’s probably one of the harder colors to pull off especially for cooler skin tones.
Caramel Apple is nearly identical to Gingerbread Girl. They’re very close in terms of depth. Gingerbread Girl leans more red and Caramel Apple pulls orange.
Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme Cinnamon Bear Lip Plumper
Too Faced’s Lip Injection Extreme Lip Plumper in the shade Cinnamon Bear is a holiday edition full sized plumping gloss. There’s 0.14 oz of product included and it retails for $29. The Lip Injection Extreme Lip Plumpers are not listed amongst Too Faced’s vegan products.
The packaging is the same as the standard Lip Injection Extreme Lip Plumpers but with cinnamon bear print decorating the cap. I don’t think the packaging is anywhere near as cute as the Melted Mattes.
Cinnamon Bear is a sheer pinky red with flecks of sparkle. If I’m wearing lip gloss you can bet it’s gonna be a nude shade, so this didn’t appeal to me.
I’ve tried previous versions of Lip Injection and sample sizes. The formula isn’t my favorite and it really comes down to one issue. It hurts. Like badly. My lips feel on fire and continue to sting even after I’ve wiped it off. So I’m gonna pass on this and stick to my Buxom Lip Polishes.
